Welcome to the Virgin Islands Humanities Council
The Virgin Islands Humanities Council (VIHC) is a private, non-profit organization supported primarily by public funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), an independent grant-making agency established by Congress in 1965 to support research, education, and public projects in the humanities. The work of the Council is accomplished by a board of thirteen volunteer directors, supported by a small staff.

The VI Humanities Council is seeking publics school teachers who show outstanding ability and unfailing dedication to the teaching the Humanities for its Annual Heath Award. Established in 2003, the award recognizes the achievement of two public school teachers of grades K-12 – one from the St. Thomas-St. John district, and one from the St. Croix district. Awardees receive a $1,000 cash prize and a commemorative certificate. Click for more info.
